1st to 2nd June

The easterly winds have done the trick as well as bringing some much needed sunshine. The island hasn't been awash with migrants but there was a good return of late visitors and scarcities on both days to keep the team motivated. First off, the Veery was found to still be present in Holland gardens on 2nd (having been absent on 1st) though it continues to be very elusive in the fuscia. Highlights from the first day of June included a stunning male Lapland Bunting at Phisligar and 2 Common Rosefinches (including an adult male) near the lighthouse, with the female type an Lap Bunt still present next day. A scatter of migrants included 2 Sparrowhawks, an Iceland Gull, 6 Collared Doves, a Cuckoo, 2 House Martin, male Redstart, unseasonal singles of Robin, Redwing and Fieldfare, 7 Spotted and a Pied Flycatcher. Most of the above were still present on 2nd with newcomers including a female Dotterel at West Beach, Icterine Warbler at Lochend, Black Redstart and Ring Ouzel.
